Water from thin air: Czech Republic to showcase sustainable-energy technologies at international conference

DUBAI, 29 November 2021 – The Czech Republic will showcase leading sustainable-energy technologies at an international conference set to be held at its Country Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai on 1 December.

The Czech Science, Sustainable Energy & Smart Mobility conference will bring together representatives from companies working on a range of technologies in the areas of sustainable-energy sources, energy-storage methods, smart system management, clean mobility, hydrogen production and modular nuclear reactors.

Jiří František Potužník, Commissioner General of the Czech Republic Pavilion, said: “Civilisation cannot get by without energy – this is confirmed by the current dramatic increase in energy prices. However, it is also clear that humanity will have to produce it much more carefully than before.

“Our pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai stands in the Sustainability District precisely because Czech companies and Czech scientists are aware of this, and they are already offering the world solutions that can help keep our planet blue and green in the future”.

Among the technologies being showcased at the conference will be the SAWER (Solar Air Water Earth Resource) system that produces water from the air using solar energy. Developed by the UCEEB Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings at the Czech Technical University, the device contains five Czech patents, including hybrid solar collectors that can generate hot water and electricity simultaneously.

Other companies and institutions to be represented at the conference include the FENIX Group, GreenTech, the Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and Brno University of Technology.

The event’s moderator, Jan Fousek, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Solar Association of the Czech Republic, said: “After years of negative political and medial attitudes, climate protection, clean energy sources and sustainability in general are no longer empty words. [The Czech Republic] stands on the threshold of positive changes in energy, clean mobility, and industry.”
