On 25th September, 2021, under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Engr. Sheikh Salim Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Al Qasimi – member of the executive council of Ras Al Khaimah and Chairman of RAK Civil Aviation Authority and honorary member of EEG. The Chairperson of EEG Mrs. Habiba Al Marashi expressed her gratitude and appreciation to H. E. Engr. Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Al-Qasimi for his support towards EEG’s urban afforestation programme and his active support to EEG’s programmes and campaigns.
She said: “EEG strives to bring all sectors of the society to work together towards a development that is just and sustainable. We want to assure first and foremost the conservation of natural habitats and ecosystems to help promote a thriving flora and fauna population and the mitigation of carbon emissions; thus, contributing collectively to the achievement of the relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”.
She added that with proper nurture, these trees will reach maturity in 3-5 years and will add to the creation of carbon sinks, noting that EEG launched the ‘Adopt a Tree’ campaign under the “For Our Emirates we Plant” programme to indulge corporations to take part in sustaining the environment and to deliver a powerful message that sustainable development can be only attained when entities work in harmony with nature. Also, she said that the “For Our Emirates We Plant” has managed to plant 2,101,518 trees since its inception in 2007. The planted trees mitigate annually approximately 12,392 MT of carbon emissions from the atmosphere.
Mrs. Habiba Al Marashi mentioned that EEG will carry out 3 activities with a total plantation of 2500 native trees till the end of this year, therefore improving the microclimate and increasing the sustainable green spaces in the UAE and mitigating carbon emissions from the atmosphere, effectively marking its commitment to the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration (2021 – 2030).
While Al Ashaya Operation Manager Mr. David Taylor Said: “From our factories to your home, we strive for quality, safety and sustainability for the planet we share, the people we serve and the purpose that unites us. At Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, West Elm + Williams Sonoma, we are committed to 100% sustainably sourced cotton and 50% sustainably sourced wood by the end of 2021 as well as 100% Green guard Certified furniture at our Pottery Barn Kids Brand.
