- Interview took place with the Emirati author as part of UAE Reading Month and World Book Day activities
As part of World Book Day and UAE Reading Month, students at Reach British School in Abu Dhabi had the opportunity to talk with Emirati children’s book author, Dr. Ahmed Al Shoaibi.
In the virtual interview held last week, Dr. Al Shoaibi kindly answered questions posed by Year 5 students from the school. During the interview all students, those on Distance Learning and face-to-face learners, totalling 135, had the opportunity to engage with the author.
Dr. Al Shoaibi was a Chemical Engineer and started his writing career later in life at 33 years old. He explained to the students, “if you work hard, and if you are committed, everything is possible. If I am able to do these things, you can do ten times more because you are all smart and brave.”
Dr. Al Shoaibi’s message to the students about becoming good writers was to “start reading, reading, and reading.” When asked about a role model he admires, he answered, “I look up to Elon Musk. He is very clever and also an avid reader and a dreamer. There are so many dreams you can achieve. He shows us if you act on your dreams, then you can achieve them.”
Principal of Reach British School, Dene Bright said: “Our students were inspired by his success and we hope this opportunity will further support in nurturing student creativity and dreaming big. At Reach British School, we recognize and foster each student’s gifts and talents by providing encouraging, inspiring and engaging learning opportunities. We believe it is important to give our students access to successful individuals and were honoured that Dr. Al Shoaibi took the time to speak to our students.”
Reach British School is part of International Schools Partnership (ISP), a global network of 48 schools. The school offers the British Curriculum to students from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 13.
