Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, November 24, 2020: Alliance Française Abu Dhabi has launched a haven for Francophiles in the capital! Step into a complete world of French literary materials offered by the brand-new Francophone TV5 Monde Bookstore at the Alliance Française Abu Dhabi.
The Francophone Bookstore has officially inaugurated on 22 November with the honorable presence of H.E. Noura Al Kaabi, the Minister of Culture and Youth in UAE, and Mrs. Sabine Sciortino, Deputy Head of Mission at the French Embassy to the UAE.
Mr. Mohamed Beldjoudi, Director of AFAD commenced the opening event with his introduction as Mr. Sultan Al Hajji, President of AFAD shared his welcoming speech. Mrs. Sabine Sciortino gave words and Mrs. Amelia Lakrafi, Deputy member of the French Parliament participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony with H.E. Noura Al Kaabi to mark the official opening of the only Francophone bookstore in Abu Dhabi that has been visited by an acclaimed bookseller, Mr. Michel Choueiri.
The special guests have also taken a visit to the Alliance Française brand-new campus featuring a media library with over 8000 books, an exhibition of paintings by French artist Mrs. Karine Roche and Emirati artist Mrs. Nada Al Ameri, and a digital museum with the “Micro-Folie” presentation.
“It’s a nice opportunity for the Francophone community! It’s a pleasant venue where we could come, get some books, sit, and take time for ourselves to read,” Karine shared as she reminisces on life in France.
Al Ameri said, “I could come to this bookshop and bring my kids to encourage them to not only read by the internet but also read books by hand to understand and feel it. It’s important to have the book itself, to have an environment, and feel the souls around you reading books.”

“As we aim to nurture the French language in the country, the addition of a Francophone bookstore on the campus is a step to make the learning experience convenient and in-depth. We have recognized the presence of all Francophones in the capital and as a support, we offer the brand-new bookstore to satisfy their reading ventures and love for the French language,” President of AFAD, Mr. Sultan Al Hajji said.
