It’s a small world after all: lucky winners from near and far share the AED 1,000,000
17 July 2020, Dubai–UAE: Last weekend saw as many as nine winners share the AED 1 million prize by matching five out of six numbers in Emirates Loto’s thirteenth draw. Those who claimed a share of the prize were from an interesting mix of native countries, including the Philippines, Canada, India, Egypt, Uganda and Pakistan.
One of the winners was Allan B. Manangan, a 45-year-old Filipino HSE engineer who has lived and worked in the UAE for 12 years. Allan is a father of three, and last weekend participated in the Emirates Loto draw for the first time: “I was shocked, nervous and speechless when I found out my family and I had won; I still feel so happy and blessed”, said Allan. He continued: “I had a video call with my 7-year-old twin sons and I asked them to choose the numbers. Thank you Emirates Loto! This amount will help my family so much and I thank our Heavenly Father for the blessings.”
Another of the winners was Bassem Itani, a 55-year-old Canadian architect who has lived in the UAE for 17 years. Married with two children, Bassem said “I regularly enter raffle draws and cash draws but I never expected to actually win! I will put the prize to good use in paying off expenses, and college and school fees for my children. I’m a huge fan of the UAE – living here has enabled me to pursue and accomplish my dreams. I’ve always worked hard but this is a true blessing.”
Patrick Lubowa, a 38-year-old administrator from Uganda also won a share of the AED 1 million. Patrick has lived in the UAE for almost six years, is engaged to be married, and is currently on unpaid leave due to the pandemic. “I’m a really hardworking individual, but I have been struggling financially like many others. I am so grateful to Emirates Loto for this life-changing blessing- I would like to use the money for driving lessons and to help my sister and her children with school fees.”
Savio Peter Fernandes, a 29-year-old native Indian and customer service assistant was lost for words on his good fortune. “Thank you God and Emirates Loto for this wonderful gift! I will be sharing the amount with two of my cousins, where it will be divided amongst the three of us.”
Noushad Arinchira, a 36-year-old retail sales assistant also from India and a UAE resident of 16 years, was both surprised and extremely happy to find out he had won. “Wow! This is the first time I’ve won anything. I will be supporting my family, donating to some worthwhile charities, and will also build my dream home as that has been a lifelong ambition.”
34-year-old Egyptian Moustafa Khalifa and a UAE resident for 12 years, was another lucky winner last weekend. Married and a father of one, Moustafa was ecstatic: “I was just so happy when I found out. I’ve never won anything before! I can’t wait to look into some great charities to help.”
Yassir Salim, a 45-year-old businessman from Pakistan was also in luck last weekend. Married with three children and a UAE resident for an incredible 35 years, Yassir pledged that he would give 10% of his winnings to charity and save the rest. “This is the first time that I’ve won any kind of lottery but in all honesty, I am disappointed that I didn’t win the jackpot!” said Yassir.
The final two winners are both from and live in India. Philip Mathew is a 35-year-old farmer who used to live in Dubai, where he stayed for two years. “I would like to help some worthwhile causes with my winnings, as I have always supported charities as far as my finances have allowed,” said Philip. The final winner asked that their anonymity be respected.
