Cinema Akil Reopens its Doors Again

Dubai, United Arab emirates | June 9 – Cinema Akil, Dubai’s only independent cinema reopens its doors again after its temporary closure on Saturday, March 14, in support of the UAE’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19. The reopening coincides with the UAE’s gradual easing of the nearly 3-month restrictions, following the rules designed by health authorities in the UAE to ensure the safety and well being of residents and visitors

Cinema Akil is now redesigned to offer a safe viewing experience with a reduced capacity of 30%, and seats rearranged to comply with social distancing measures ensuring a  2-meters distance between patrons. In accordance with UAE regulations, both visitors and staff are required to wear a face mask at the cinema. Patrons will also have their temperatures checked before entering Alserkal Avenue. Cinema Akil will offer online bookings only in order to reduce contact and will administer rigorous disinfecting procedures every day, in addition to sanitizing stations available across the space.

It is also worth noting that Cinema Akil will now screen one film from Tuesday to Saturday every night only to ensure proper sanitization and disinfection of the space daily including the use of a fogging machine. The Cinema will be open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, box office hours will operate from 6 – 9 p.m. and closed on Sunday and Monday. Project Chaiwala will be open on the same days from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. offering your favorite bites and Karak. The latest updated schedule of films is available on the website.

The opening film will be Michael Winterbottom’s A Trip to Greece, the final film of the series where we will follow British comedic duo, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. Since we may not be able to travel quite yet, we invite you to follow them on this hilarious odyssey through Greece at Cinema Akil.

When Odysseus left Troy it took him ten years to get back to his home in Ithaca. Steve and Rob have only six days on their own personal odyssey in THE TRIP TO GREECE. On the way they argue about tragedy and comedy, astronomy and biology, myth, history, democracy and the meaning of life!
