The Dh550,000 donation will support the ’10 million meals’ campaign Visa pledges 55,000 meals, lights up 55,000 pixels on the World’s Tallest Donation Box

The Dh550,000 donation will support the ’10 million meals’ campaign

As donations continue to pour in, Visa has pledged 55,000 meals to coronavirus-hit communities in the UAE, lighting up 55,000 pixels on Burj Khalifa as part of the World’s Tallest Donation Box.

The Dh550,000 donation contributes to illuminating Burj Khalifa’s 1.2 million lights to secure 1.2 million meals and food parcels for the ’10 million meals’ campaign that supports individuals and families affected by the covid-19 pandemic during Ramadan.

Launched on Saturday, the World’s Tallest Donation Box enables companies, entities and the public to purchase lights of Burj Khalifa, for as little as Dh10 each. For every light purchased for Dh10 through the website www.tallestdonationbox.com, one meal is provided to someone in need, with the ultimate goal to illuminate the 1.2 million lights on the façade of the world’s tallest building in solidarity with communities hard hit by the pandemic globally.

Commenting on the support of Visa, the world’s leader in digital payments, Andrew Torre, Regional President of Visa for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, said “We are extremely pleased to support this important initiative which is providing 10 million meals to those most in need, and carrying a powerful message of hope and community to the world. The response to the World’s Tallest Donation Box shows the solidarity within the UAE, and what can be achieved when companies and organizations come together to address challenges and progress efforts to combat the current pandemic.”

Under the supervision of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) and the Social Solidarity Fund Against Covid-19, meals and food parcels are delivered in a logistical distribution network developed in collaboration with partnering entities to reach beneficiaries across the country.

Ways to get involved

Companies and individuals can buy Burj Khalifa’s lights, for as little as Dh10 each, on the website www.tallestdonationbox.com to provide meals for the vulnerable amid the pandemic.

Donors can also provide meals through the ’10 million meals’ campaign by contributing on the website www.10millionmeals.ae or via SMS (Etisalat and Du) to numbers listed on the website. Donors can make a transfer to ’10 million meals’ campaign bank account at Dubai Islamic Bank with IBAN no.:AE430240001580857000001.

Donors also have the chance to provide packaged or canned food supplies or arrange food parcels for distribution through directly contacting the campaign’s organizing team on the toll-free number 8004006.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the launch of the ’10 million meals’ campaign earlier in April to provide food support to families and individuals affected by the Covid-19 pandemic that left many facing unemployment and income reductions.

The campaign is led by his wife Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of UAE Food Bank.-
